It is with deep sadness we announce the passing Ian “Reddas” Reddaway, an icon amongst umpires and athletes in South Australia.
Ian, a former field and boundary umpire and later boundary umpires coach, commenced umpiring with the SANFL in 1988. He umpired a multitude of games from the Under 17s through to League level Escort Cup.
Ian was very well known amongst the country leagues spending many Saturday’s journeying to all parts of the State to umpire A-grade matches. Such a jovial and personable personality, Ian always had time to spend with anyone and thoroughly loved a chat.
As a mark of respect, umpires will wear black armbands across all SANFL grades this weekend.
Our thoughts are with Ian’s family.
