It is with great sadness that the SANFL Umpires Association advised the passing of former League Field Umpire and SANFLUA Life Member, Ross LeCornu. Ross passed away peacefully at Alwyndor Nursing Home at Brighton, he was 80-years old.
Ross officiated in 65 SANFL league games in the 1960’s under the one umpire system, in the days of KG Cunningham, Max O’Connell, Murray Ducker and the like. Ross became a SANFLUA Life Member in 1967.
He was one of the youngest to ever officiate at league level debuting at around 19-years-old.
Ross was well known as a great bouncer of the footy – being just over 6ft tall, he always got plenty of height.
The entire SANFLUA family extends their sincerest condolences to Ross’s family.
